What is it about?
The development of a programme developed within a deprived rural community. The programme was aimed at parents of young babies to help them build local friendships, reduce isolation and used public health messages as a means to structure the group and provide a framework to promote access.

Why is it important?
This programme helped families meet other parents with young children and build capacity of their own parenting and ability to gain support from their peer group.
Perspectives
The development of this programme provided a setting to help some of those most isolated within the small community, it demonstrated that as professionals we can listen and act on what a community wants, the service development was not cost or resource intense and demonstrated that with commitment and insight parents can be equipped to help each other.
