What is it about?
This paper explains the procedures undertaken to pilot the newly formed questionnaires to measure the parent/health visitor relationship. It also demonstrates that the questionnaires were sensitive to differing relationships by sharing the results of the research. This demonstrates that the questionnaires are valid and reliable for the population for which they were intended.

Why is it important?
Having a valid and reliable tool to measure the parent/health visitor relationship is useful in order to demonstrate the importance of this relationship to child and parent outcomes.
Perspectives
Helping those who work with parents understand the importance of the relationship was my professional concern for the last eight years of my working life. I trained the Family Partnership model (Davis and Day 2010). Having a valid tool to measure the relationship was important in order to evaluate training. However, it became clear during the course of the research that the parent/health visitor relationship was different from other helping relationships and so a tool was necessary that was specific to the parent/health visitor relationship. As this was also my professional background it seemed fitting that I complete my work by developing the tools.
