What is it about?

Sharing information is part of the healing process. Both the caregivers and the patients acknowledge the power of speaking up. Effective, timely and adequate information and communication makes the cancer patients start to appreciate things as they are and this is progressive towards healing. Avoiding discussions on cancer is neither a solution to the patient nor the caregiver. Talking about them is part of the healing process. The patient needs to understand what is happening to them just like the caregiver who needs to know how to manage the changing conditions.

Why is it important?

Communication is very important to patients survering from terminal illness like cancer. There is need to educate the public on cancer disease management beyond the use of drugs with emphasis on the cultural beliefs that inhibit patients from seeking medical attention and psychological support. Counselling sessions should be provided for all cervical cancer patients and caregivers to help them cope and adequately adjust to be able to handle challenges that come with this disease.
