What is it about?
The research pillar is one of the least popular areas of advanced practice, with many practitioners finding the area inaccessible and intimidating. Traditional, specialty-based journal clubs are limited in modern day healthcare settings. To address these preconceptions of research, a peer-based online advanced clinical practice (ACP) journal club was created.

Why is it important?
By understanding the barriers to accessing research at any level, we were able to create a solution to increase participation within research. Our findings highlighted that a supportive and interactive environment that focused on critical appraisal rather than article conclusions and findings was consistent with increased confidence of the learner and participation in research.
Perspectives
Traditional and specialty based journal clubs are outdated and are often seen as intimidating which can discourage participation. We found that creating a peer-based learning environment facilitated by a non-expert leader greatly increased participation and confidence of the learners.
