Why is it important?

Supply of PPE has been an issue at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic. This article enables the reader to be clear of the requirements and provides further resources in order to practice safely in the context of COVID-19.

Perspectives

Supply and demand of PPE has been at issue at the forefront of the current pandemic. Effective supply and correct use of PPE will ensure risks to healthcare workers are minimised. We have already seen the disproportionately high number of deaths due to COVID-19 of front line healthcare workers with speculated links to PPE supply and use. This article enables the reader to be clear of the requirements for effective PPE given their clinical context and also provides guidance as to the safe use of this equipment. In a fast paced situation, a summary of PPE will support nurses to maintain the highest levels of safety during their daily work.
