What is it about?

Lesbian non-gestational mothers may breastfeed their babies. During lockdown restrictions in the UK, maternity policies that assumed babies only had one mother and one father did not take account of this, preventing some babies from being breastfed, and causing harm to their parents.

Why is it important?

Human milk is the optimal food for babies. When a parent wishes to feed their baby, badly thought through policies should not prevent this. Maternity services should be inclusive.
