Abstract In this text, we will present the social trajectories and the career of the Portuguese fidalgos and nobles that served to the Portuguese King in the ruling of the State of Brazil during the second half of the seventeenth century. We will analyze the features that composed the profile of this group, such as their family origins, marriage alliances, and strategies of nobilitation. We also analyze the many kinds of services that were rendered to the Portuguese Crown, both in the Kingdom of Portugal and in the Overseas. We seek to establish a dialogue with the previous works that dealt with the theme and also propose new questions to advance the debates, especially under the light of our contribution to comprehending the strategies of memory perpetuation seeking social prominence. This particular reflection was produced from the analysis of the reports and narratives that projected these fidalgos and their Houses in the Portuguese imperial scenario.
