Why is it important?

The study finds that manager-worker separation is particularly noxious for worker performance when the worker has to execute complex tasks, or when the worker is simultaneously remote from other workers, that is when he or she is isolated. It is also found that manager-worker separation reduces the positive effect of manager experience on worker performance--although one must keep in mind that in our setting workflow was highly structured and IT-supported.
