What is it about?
We know that brokerage positions in the social structure of organizations provide benefits to the individuals who occupy them. However, it is not clear what is the information transfer process that lead to these benefits. We propose that that brokers engage in unembedded brokerage, that is short term interactions with other employees who are not part of their network of stable relations, more than non-brokers. We test this idea using email exchanges between all employees of a medium size organization and find support for our predictions.
