Maritime legislation and regulations in the shipping are changing almost every month. because of it many shipping companies deliver additional education and training to their ship officers and engineers by so called "fleet officers' seminars". The companies work jointly with some educational institutions. It is professional way of cooperation between business and education for mutual benefit.

Why is it important?
Rules and requirements for ships and ship officers are constantly changing. Shipping companies are subject to continued pressure from market conditions, the IMO's ambition to increase ship's safety and environmental protection. These features require that the training and knowledge of ship officers and engineers be maintained at a highly professional level. For this reason, the annual seminars carried out by most shipping companies are a good tool for continuous training.
Perspectives
This article analyzes fleet officers seminars as a part of Life Long Learning process. All good practices can be a subject of next research in order to popularized them to the maritime society.
