Why is it important?
Entry into the cell division cycle is tightly regulated and becomes misrelated in cancer cells. Recent work has added to our understanding of this critical transition, and refined earlier, simple models of how and when pro- and anti-proliferative signals are integrated to make the decision to divide (or not). These studies have raised new questions, however, and future work is needed to reconcile differences between models derived from different approaches or in different cell types.
