What is it about?

This paper provides a complete documentation of a transpiration model considering soil water infiltration and redistribution. The input and out data files, the computer programs and their documentation, are provided for reproducing the results.

Why is it important?

The key concepts of in this paper are mostly covered in textbooks. However, the level of completeness by which the important details for root water uptake modeling are described and explained is rarely found in regular textbooks. As this work exposes a root water uptake model for full scrutiny, it will foster future developments.

Perspectives

The fact that this paper was written by a plant physiologist might motivate other plant scientists to become interested in modeling plant transpiration considering root-soil interactions from a macroscopic view point.
