What is it about?

Mutations were found in DNA of the RNA binding protein hnRNP A1 purified from the lymphocytes of MS patients.

Why is it important?

DNA mutations in RNA binding proteins might cause disease or an abnormal immune response in MS patients.

Perspectives

The cause of autoimmune diseases, including MS, are related to a combination of inherited and environmental factors. Many inherited DNA mutations have been found to cause neurological disease. In this study, we believe that acquired DNA mutations also contribute to the pathogenesis of neurological diseases, including MS.
