What is it about?

Currently, healthcare systems are governed top-down. This is not optimal to solve complex problems because at each organizational level different problems occur that have to be solved there autonomously. These solutions must respect rules coming down from above and possible influences acting below.

Why is it important?

Unbiased problem-solving at each level brings better and less costly solutions than those resulting from top-down performance. A general understanding of what health really is contributes to success. Optimal communication resulting from good human relationships also is needed.

Perspectives

Healthcare is not dependent only on the competencies of physicians and nurses. Optimal functioning is possible when at all levels of the healthcare systems attention is paid to the other levels bottom-up and top-down. This type of functioning results in better results and lower costs. It must be planned and practiced at each level.
