What is it about?

Soil erosion is a critical problem for sustainable food production. That happens with water runoff when the soil surface is bare. We found that the root mass of the last crop is related to the amount of rainwater absorption by soil after tillage.

Why is it important?

The key to avoiding soil erosion is increasing soil infiltration of the bare soil surface when the crop is small. However, fewer studies conducted the infiltration at the time of tillage. We unexpectedly found that the effect of crop residue incorporation is less effective than last crop root mass. In addition, we found that the effect disappears within the next crop period in the tropical condition so it is difficult to aware.

Perspectives

The most famous resolution of soil erosion is non-tillage farming; however, most of the farmland is tillage. We consider those of land can reduce erosion by utilizing our finding.
