What is it about?

Many patients admitted with stroke develop problems with their kidney functions too. This can lead to difficulties in management. We followed up 25 patients with brain haemorrhage and 27 patients with ischemic stoke (brain vessels getting blocked) and followed the trend in their kidney function. We found that patients with brain haemorrhage were more likely to have impaired kidney function. This impairment, however, was transient and the patients rarely needed to be treated with hemodialysis.

Why is it important?

This work will give insight to the treating doctors the importance of regular follow up of renal functions in patients with stroke and also guide them in treating the kidney impairment, when it does actually develop.

Perspectives

We have tried to be as accurate as we can. We have sincerely recorded each and every kidney function report of the patients enrolled in study, followed the trend with strict hospital protocols; and have been able to establish some important findings which will help the doctors (neuosciences, nephrology) in treating patients with stroke.
