What is it about?

We have introduced the Brassica Information Portal, a web repository for Brassica phenotype data. This article describes the current state of development and future plans. In particular, we describe tool architecture and programmatic and wizard-based submission of experimental plant phenotyping data. Most importantly BIP is a first fully open source tool to manage and analyse plant phenotyping trait data, and therefore could be applied to research on any other crop.

Why is it important?

We hope that BIP encourages data sharing and re-use by helping to integrate and harmonise datasets generated worldwide and therefore will play important role in helping projects aiming at development of better crops and improvement of food security.
