What is it about?

We aimed at clarifying the different and irreducible nature of first-person (subjective phenomenological experiences) versus third-person accounts, both observational and physiological.

Why is it important?

Because, within a physicalism metaphysic, first-person experiences can be reduced and hence investigated simply by using third-person accounts, e.g. their neurophysiological correlates. In the paper we presented a non exaustive list of examples in order to demonstrate that this assumption is not correct.

Perspectives

We hope to warn all researchers that first-person phenomenological experiences are the only reliable source of information related to these experiences and that the knowledge of their neural and psychophysical correlates don’t offer any additional information about them.
