What is it about?

HBD-3 and LL-37 are for the first time shown to be significantly upregulated in Kaposi’s sarcoma skin lesions as compared with skin of healthy controls. The obtained data suggest a possible contribution of HBD-3 and LL-37 in the innate and adaptive immune response target against HHV-8. Another possibility is the potential involvement of these antimicrobial peptides in the pathogenesis of KS.
