Why is it important?

The development of balneotherapy depends not only on natural therapeutic resources but also on medical expertise, institutional organization, financing, and appropriate healthcare infrastructure. This article brings these dimensions together, documenting the strengths, limitations, and development priorities of Romanian balneotherapy in 2015. Its main contribution is providing a historical reference for researchers examining health resort medicine, rehabilitation services, and the evolution of balneological healthcare systems. The analysis is particularly relevant for comparisons between national approaches to organizing and developing medically supervised balneotherapy services.

Perspectives

As a co-author of this article, I consider its main contribution to be the documentation of Romanian balneotherapy at an important stage of healthcare and institutional development. My clinical and academic experience in Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation, and Balneology has reinforced the importance of examining natural therapeutic resources within the broader context of medical practice, healthcare organization, and scientific research. Although the article reflects the situation in 2015, I believe it remains a useful historical reference for understanding the evolution of balneotherapy in Romania and for identifying questions relevant to future research and international collaboration.
