What is it about?

Heavy metals may be present in industrial wastewater. In this work, we use a common material, expanded vermiculite, to remove heavy metals from water. Does it work? How much metal can we remove? Is it possible to make it a circulating system?

Why is it important?

Removing heavy metals from wastewater avoids ecosystem pollution and supports more sustainable industrial activities. By applying cheaper and common materials in the treatment process, we also make it economically feasible.

Perspectives

I hope this article makes wastewater treatment more accessible, as state-of-the-art treatments may not be employed everywhere. It certainly made me look around to consider different options, and not only think about super engineered special materials for all jobs.
