What is it about?
SBRT is an effective treatment for inoperable patients of recurrent Head and neck cancers. It is a highly precise and efficacious Radiation technique for delivering radiation therapy to patients with recurrent Head and neck cancers. It has much less toxicity and same or better efficacy as compared to techniques like IMRT and 3D-CRT .

Why is it important?
The precision of SABR makes it particularly suitable for recurrent HNC patients who often have multiple Pre existing morbidities like difficulty in swallowing and Xerostomia. In these situations, SABR yields local control and survival same or better than IMRT and 3DCRT with much less morbidly .
Perspectives
Treatment options for recurrent Head and neck cancers are limited by high morbidly associated with re-surgery, chemotherapy and protracted radiation therapy like IMRT. These modalities further lead to deterioration of their quality of life. Further,More than 50-70% patients with recurrent Head and neck cancers are inoperable when diagnosed and chemotherapy has high grade 3 and 4 morbidity which is not justified in these patients with limited survival. SABR is highly precise technique to a limited tumor volume which yields local control in the range of 80-90%. Other big advantage is low morbidly , Gr>2 in no more than 10-15%patients and short treatment time is 3-7 days compared to typical 6 weeks with IMRT.
