What is it about?
In my book review of Anthony Ryan Hatch’s Blood Sugar: Racial Pharmacology and Food Justice in Black America, I describe how Hatch explores the ways in medical and environmental racisms converge – and in the process exacerbate and mystify racial health inequities -- in the racialized assumptions made in the construction of metabolic syndrome.

Why is it important?
Hatch does great work in synthesizing social theories and demystifying biomedical jargon, making the books a great and very timely read for sociologists, health policy practitioners, and critical theorists.
