What is it about?
Little is known regarding optimal ventilation techniques during the management of difficult pediatric airways. In this study we found that spontaneous ventilation techniques are associated with increased airway reactivity and increased non-severe complications in pediatric difficult airways compared to controlled ventilation techniques. Patients with initial spontaneous ventilation techniques experience increased airway reactivity during airway management likely related to inadequate anesthetic depth. Techniques to improve assessment and maintenance of anesthetic depth may reduce complications. _x000D_
