Focused Cardiac Ultrasound in the Pediatric Perioperative Setting

What is it about?

Infants and children sometimes become unstable during surgery and anesthesia without an obvious cause for the problem. This article describes the novel use of heart ultrasound at the bedside to assess cardiac function and specifically direct therapy to the problem at hand. Parallels to similar adult applications are discussed. Barriers to wider implementation are discussed.
