What is it about?
The bed up head elevated position is a position for intubation which offers many advantages. We explored whether this position improves the view of the vocal cord during intubation, potentially increasing the success of intubation. In this study we showed that the bed up head elevated position is non-inferior to the use of video devices for intubation in assessing the exposure of the vocal cord. This comparison was made because video assisted intubation is increasingly replacing standard intubation technique, and is considered by many to be the preferred method of intubation. Clinicians should consider this position as standard intubation positioning due to its benefits, lack of proven disadvantages and simplicity.
