What is it about?
Based upon this metaanalysis of randomized studies, preoperative erythropoietin (pEPO) is associated with a significant reduction in perioperative blood transfusions. Our study demonstrates no significant increase in risk of thromboembolic complications with pEPO administration. Additional studies are necessary to confirm dosing and schedule of pEPO.
