What is it about?
Communication skills are essential in today’s fast-paced health care environment and poor communication between health care providers can lead to conflict. Caring for children has a higher potential for conflict since parents are involved in medical decision making. To successfully navigate through conflict, physicians must know different conflict management approaches and when to use them. We provide a framework for conflict management styles as well as techniques for managing conflict in the pediatric operating room. Formal education in conflict management is necessary and should include all members of the perioperative team.
