What is it about?
Women previously having diabetes during pregnancy are at a greater risk of getting diabetes later in life. We find that women with pregnancy diabetes and with mutations in genes known to cause specific forms for diabetes have a greater risk of getting diabetes later in life. Therefore it is important to identify these mutations to follow these women more closely and thereby give them a better treatment and prognosis.

Why is it important?
It is important because diabetes is often not identified in time but knowing which individuals are at a greater risk of developing diabetes will make it easier to following these individuals more closely and start treatment as soon as the disease starts.
