What is it about?

Dielectric response function is of fundamental importance to understand the interaction between matter and photon or charged particles. It is derived from generalized oscillator strength (GOS), which can be determined as a function of energy and momentum transfer with inelastic x-ray or electron scattering experiments. GOS is best illustrated as Bethe surface, and Bethe surfaces of liquid water obtained experimentally and theoretically are compared.
