Why is it important?

The vaginal pessary offers a low-risk, cost-effective, nonsurgical treatment option for women of all ages with pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence. It is an essential component of a clinician's armamentarium.

Perspectives

Vaginal pessaries have a long and colorful history, dating back to Egyptian times, the Middle Ages, and all the way to the age of modern medicine. However, despite advancements in the design and usage of pessaries over the ages, they had always taken a back seat to surgery in dealing with pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence. Co-editing this book with Dr. Matthew Davies and collaborating with the different authors who are leaders in the field was both a great honor and a privilege.
