What is it about?

A important correction of an error made by editorial staff at this journal, who had invited a person they thought was a medical doctor to write an opinion piece about medical diagnosis. In fact he is not a medical doctor and had never claimed to be.

Why is it important?

It is important that peer-reviewed journals commission appropriate professionals to author articles, especially largely non-referenced opinion pieces. In fact, this article should never have been published, as it was only appropriate for a doctor to be invited to write it, and I cannot imagine any GMC / board-certified medical doctor would have ever have taken the stance that this author did, unless willing to take on a debate purely for debate's sake.
