Vibrations detected using fiber optic cables can be used to monitor traffic patterns

What is it about?

There is a growing realization that DAS systems are suitable for traffic monitoring applications, whereby the vibrations from passing vehicles are detected using Fiber optic cables. Here one such application is demonstrated, using a DAS dataset originally collected for the purpose of monitoring a geothermal reservoir, I show that the data can also be used to monitor traffic on a nearby highway.
