Why is it important?
This study is timely because many small firms face rapid digital change and global uncertainty. What makes it unique is showing how creativity alone is not enough. Digital capabilities turn ideas into international success. It offers practical guidance for SMEs competing in a tech-driven world.
Perspectives
The paper examines how small and medium-sized firms can compete internationally by combining creativity with digital capabilities. Using data from 382 Brazilian SMEs, we show that creativity alone is not enough—firms must develop digital skills to turn ideas into global results. This is especially important in Brazil, where most exporters are SMEs operating in volatile environments. The study highlights how intangible resources can overcome size and resource limitations in global markets.
