What is it about?

This study is about a technique that promotes healthy liver growth in humans that have liver cancer. The best treatment for liver cancer is surgery but most of the patients cannot be submitted to resection due to insufficient healthy liver. The technique described in this manuscript enables the healthy part of the liver to grow and thus allowing those patients to be submitted to the potentially curative liver surgery afterwords.

Why is it important?

This technique needs to be more recognised so patients can be submitted to it. This technique, portal vein embolization, enables patients previously not candidates to curative surgery, to be forwarded to this surgical treatment.

Perspectives

Many researches are involved now in the liver regeneration field, and this publication once again showed the possibilities of liver growth specifically in the cancer war.
