What is it about?

This is a cross-sectional study providing empirical data on the technical capacity, organisational structure, and protocols for assessing and conducting AMR surveillance in Nigeria. This work provides a situational report of laboratories at various levels in Nigeria and their approaches to data collection, sample management and overall surveillance reporting.

Why is it important?

This is a cross-sectional study which identified gaps in surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance in Nigeria with data gathered across the country. Our goal is to improve surveillance and to also plug gaps in data collection.

Perspectives

This article highlights a long standing challenge around data collection and infrastructure around AMR surveillance but also provides some suggestions and solutions on how to improve capacity and data collection
