What is it about?

This article describes a physical activity / nutrition programme that has been successfully implemented through schools in New Zealand over the past 10 years. Such programmes are difficult to sustain, and this article describes some of the features of the programme that have contributed to its success.

Why is it important?

Obesity and lack of fitness have become common even among children. Schools are a useful setting to encourage movement, fitness, and health. Nutrition/fitness programs are often hard to implement in schools, or they are short-lived. But conditions for a sustainable and effective programme run through schools are achievable, based on the experience of Project Energize in New Zealand. Their experience can be used as the basis for expansion to other regions, even internationally.
