What is it about?

This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between blood laboratory test results during CPR and outcomes of OHCA patients.

Why is it important?

The pH was independantly related to survival to hospital discharge (adjusted OR 6.3, 95% CI 2.6 - 15.2; p<0.001) and good neurologic recovery (adjusted OR 15.4, 95% CI 3.4 - 68.9; p<0.001). None of the neurologically intact patients had low pH levels (<6.8) or excessive potassium levels (>8.5 mEq/L) during CPR.

Perspectives

The pH and potassium levels were observed as independant factors associated with survival to hospital discharge, and pH level was considered as an independant factor related to neurological recovery.
