What is it about?

Skeletal muscle depletion accompanied with physical functional decline started in the early phase of the chemotherapy in elderly patients with advanced lung cancer. (Trial registration No.: UMIN000009768)

Why is it important?

There may be a need for early supportive care in these patients to prevent functional decline during chemotherapy.

Perspectives

Our results suggest that there may be a need for early supportive care in these patients to prevent functional decline during chemotherapy. Further randomized control study is needed to determine whether early exercise and nutritional intervention may be useful to prevent muscle depletion and functional decline in this population.
