What is it about?

A comprehensive geriatric intervention (CGA) in this study was proved to have potential for improvement of eating function and prognsis in the elderly with dementia who had been dependent on artificial hydration and nutrition (AHN) (i.e. intravenous drip, tube feedings, etc.).

Why is it important?

Performing the best assessment and providing appropriate care for the eating problems in this population helped us to precisely judge its reversibility, which could improve the functional status of eating and help them survive without the need for AHN. These effects might assist in decision making for indications of AHN and could reduce inappropriate AHNs.
