What is it about?

Up-to-date, genuine programmes for sexual and reproductive health (SRH) have been possible in Romania not earlier than the collapse of Communism (1990). Since 2006, Romania has had no national strategy in this field. Under the current global circumstances (high population mobility in the labour market, mixed marriages) the issues thought to be solely national in the past, have evolved into worldwide concerns.

Why is it important?

This study proposes to determine: age at initiation of sexual life, marriage with the first sexual partner, time of knowing the partner at FI, protection at FI, number of sexual partners, age at first information on sex and sources of information regarding sexual and reproductive health (SRH). Also will be analyzed the impact of social-demographic variables on these items in Romania and comparisons with other studies will also be carried out

Perspectives

The results of this study cover a gap in the specialized literature regarding sexual behaviour in Romania. At the same time, the trends identified regarding sexual activity and the sources of information in the field of sex can form the basis of public health programmes which are targeting the SRH.
