Why is it important?

Sensory neurons with A-delta axons are often associated with pain, nociception and TRPV1 receptors. This study indicates that despite their thinly myelinated axons, regularly discharging aortic baroreceptors lack TRPV1, a finding which reinforces the TRPV1+ and TRPV1- dichotomy of cranial visceral afferents.

Perspectives

While a negative result, this work fits into a much broader narrative of TRPV1 agonist responses in Xth cranial nerve physiology including their central transmission within the solitary tract nucleus in the brainstem.
