What is it about?
This pilot project aimed to assess the feasibility of implementing a sentinel site surveillance system within the newly formed GP Super Clinic, namely Shell Cove Family Health (SCFH), located in the Shellharbour LGA of the Illawarra-Shoalhaven catchment of New South Wales, Australia.

Why is it important?
Chronic disease risk on a population level can be quantified through health surveys, either continuous or periodic. To date, information gathered from primary care interactions, using sentinel sites, has not been investigated as a potentially valuable surveillance system in Australia.
Perspectives
A novel idea for regional Australia that has never been formally tried and tested. This study ventures into the innovative world of using general practice data for wider population health planning.
