What is it about?

We analyzed gene families of five organisms belonging to the rhizobia, soil bacteria that enter in symbiosis with Legumes, but also include some pathogenic organisms such as Brucella and Agrobacterium. The detected families were 1416.

Why is it important?

It is important because this is a comprehensive study. The approaches were to analyze the sequence of the gene members, to relate the rate of divergence to the position they have (ie, conserved position or non conserved position) and then to find which functional role they have.

Perspectives

The study on conservation of position of a gene in a chromosome is very fruitful because allows to relate the rate of divergence of a gene with phenomena acting at much larger scales.
