What is it about?
Because adverse drug reactions are the 4th to 5th cause of death in Western Countries, we need to find integrative and multidisciplinary solutions to improve medication practices. Israel which has recently built its pharmacovigilance system has several assets to address this Public Health Issue: its worldwide top rank in digital medicine, the development of Artificial Intelligence solutions to prevent medication errors, its HMOs organization with large databases, its innovative projects in the frame of ISOP ISRAEL.

Why is it important?
We believe that Pharmacovigilance is not an expert field but a Public Health Issue which will be efficient only if integrated into all disciplines as a continuum to protect patient safety: healthcare professionals, patients, authorities, HMOs, hospitals and community, academy.
Perspectives
In the Israeli Chapter of ISOP ( International Society of Pharmacovigilance), which I am chairing, we are working according to the concepts described in this article: we have combined tools and methods to set up a new strategy to improve medication safety. We have tested this strategy in several environments in hospital and community pharmacies as pilot centers. Our first case study was dedicated to anticoagulants.
