What is it about?

On how to use and optimize Distributed Ledger Technologies (aka Blockchain) to support large-scale registration of mobility data and coping with the quite high latency of the block composition compared to the frequent location updates.

Why is it important?

Mobility of goods, people, and cargo is at the core of most economic and societal services (e.g. supply chain, trade, logistics, security) and hence must be registered for purposes of accounting and in order to support possible legal disputes over liability. This work identified if DLTs are suitable for this mobility registration.

Perspectives

There are many interesting research lines in this direction and I also believe that quite soon several logistics and delivery businesses will have to use a DLT based storage of mobility data persistence.
