What is it about?

Electronic cigarettes are often considered as a safer option than tobacco cigarettes. We included 214 students in our study and measure heart rate, blood pressure and FEV1/FVC ratio. These values were measured before smoking, immediately after smoking cigarettes and 15 minitues after smoking.

Why is it important?

In our study we have found, that in terms of immediate effects, electronic cigarettes have similar effects when compared to the tobacco cigarettes, probably due to the similar nictoine stimulation. In terms of immediate effects e-cigarettes are not a better option when compared to the usual cigarettes, but the long-term effects of using e-cigarettes should be studied as well.

Perspectives

In the pubication we covered some of the immediate effects of smoking in the healthy young population (students) and there was no differnce between the tobacco cigarette users and e-cigarettes users in terms of immediate effects.
