What is it about?

In pulmonary embolism, it would be desirable if the test for diagnosis – CT Pulmonary Angiography – also could be used for risk estimation and prognosis. Unfortunately, many smaller studies in the past gave conflicting results with respect to the parameters that could be used. In this study almost 2000 patients were prospectively included and followed up for 1 year. Only an enlarged pulmonary trunk diameter was associated with mortality and recurrent disease up to 12 months and hence can be used for risk stratification.
