What is it about?
COVID-19 is characterised by a high degree of inflammation sparked by the virus. Various attempts have been made to dampen down the inflammation, some of which of worked but many of which have not. Our limited understanding of the biology of COVID-19 does not reliably predict which therapies will work. Attempts at blocking a particular inflammatory mediator (GM-CSF) show divergent results, this editorial discusses why this might be and what should be the next steps in this field.
