What is it about?
We found strong genetic correlation between asthma and 3 mental health disorders (ADHD, anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder). Base on that finding, we further investigated the shared genetic components between asthma and 3 mental health disorders. The identified shared genes mainly expressed in human tissues belonging to exocrine/endocrine, digestive, respiratory and hemic/immune system. We also suggested that ADHD and major depressive disorder might increase the risk of asthma through genetics.

Why is it important?
The mystery association between asthma and mental health disorders has been discussed for a long time. Our study provided timely explanation to this mystery association through shared genetics view.
Perspectives
Our study opens a new avenue for the understanding of the asthma mental health disorders association and provide direction in development of drugs for preventing and treating both of them at the same time. We also want to let the general population know the disease concurrence can be from their shared genetics.
